About Children's Book Author, Kim Ann
Kim Ann is a bestselling children’s book author. She lives in Southern California with her husband, their two children, and their dogs. For several years, Kim Ann worked as a freelance writer and published many feel-good articles about families, but she always dreamed of writing the fun, imaginative, colorful books she enjoyed reading.

Q. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Kim Ann: I always enjoyed writing. I took several courses in college and began my professional career as a freelance writer. During that time, I wrote and published several articles in magazines, newsletters, and online publications. When I was 9 years old, I wrote a book of poetry that was displayed in the school library. It had a construction paper cover and a yarn binding, but technically that was my first book.
Q. What advice do you have for writers?
Kim Ann: Just sit down and start. Whether you like to use your computer, write out your thoughts, or dictate into your phone, get the ball rolling. I use a combination of all of these methods, depending on when an idea comes to me.
Q. Describe what your ideal writing space looks like?
Kim Ann: I mostly write at my dining room table, but if I need some inspiration or a fresh perspective, I walk my dogs. Many great ideas have started that way.
Q. How did you become involved in the subject or theme of your book?
Kim Ann: My stories are inspired by my real life. Ruby the Rainbow Witch is based on my daughter, the characters in Goldy the Puppy, and the Missing Socks are my son and daughter, and Goldy is our dog. The Amber Fairies characters and names are based on my friend’s twin daughters, Adeline & Ansley.
Q. What inspires you as a writer?
Kim Ann: My inspiration for each book has come from a different place or person, but my main inspiration is my special needs son, Aidan. He loves colorful picture books, so I want to write books that make him smile.
Q. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Kim Ann: I simply love spending time with my husband, kids, and dogs.
Q. What type of books do you write?
Kim Ann: I enjoy creating fun, imaginative stories kids will love.
What does your creative process look like?
Kim Ann: I get a fun idea, and I run with it. I just see where it takes me.
Q. Can you tell us about one of the most rewarding moments you have had as an author?
Kim Ann: I’ve been lucky to have a few, I can’t believe this is happening to me, in a good way, moments. One of the best was when an author friend of mine messaged me and asked where she could find a hat like my character Ruby wears in my books. She explained that her daughter’s birthday was coming up, and she wanted a Ruby the Rainbow Witch party. It warmed my heart to think my books left such an impression on her. I was really honored.
Q. Are you working on anything at the present that you would like to share with your readers about?
Kim Ann: Oh, yes! My next book, “Where Do Dinosaurs Go On Vacation?” is the next one in the Go on vacation book series and had so much fun writing it!
