A Children's Book about Self-Esteem: The Little Piano
self-es·teem
/ˈˌself əˈstēm/
noun
“confidence in one’s own worth or abilities; self-respect.”
Sometimes it seems like kids either have it or they don’t. However, this is far from the truth. Confidence can be learned and also mastered! As a mother of 3 beautiful children, I see how each of my kids struggle with confidence in one way shape or form and very much so on a regular basis.
From “I can’t do it,” “I’m not good enough,” to “why am I so fat,” it is heartbreaking to watch my kids — all of who have so much potential, goodness, and worth— talk themselves out of something because they worry they won’t measure up to society’s standards.
So, of course, I call upon the wonderful, talented powers that be, the ever so talented children’s book authors and use their books to help my kids get through these situations.
Self-esteem children’s books are such an excellent way to help nurture confidence, providing the perfect tools to spark conversations about your children’s important skills, talents, and unique characteristics.
Growing confidence, not only for kids but adults, is an essential skill that will allow children to take risks, try new things, and understand that flops and defeats are vital to healthy social-emotional development. Mistakes help us learn, thrive, and decide to try again!
A beautiful children’s book that teaches children to believe in themselves and their unique abilities is The Little Piano, written by Trinity Bursey and illustrated by John D Shull. This wonderfully illustrated book is about Lyric, the little piano. Kids follow Lyric as he goes on an inspirational musical adventure. Told in rhyme with colorful illustrations, this book will surely be a hit in your home.
The Little Piano teaches children an excellent message that you are valuable, uniquely created with a purpose, and perfect just the way they are. Lyric teaches us that we need to believe in ourselves and our unique abilities – Lyric teaches us self-worth and how to have confidence. This is the perfect book to encourage your kids to start believing in their beautiful selves.

Q. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Trinity: I first realized that I wanted to be a writer when I was a little girl. I wrote my first official book when I was about 10. My mom helped me bind it, and it even had a dedication page!
Q. What does your family think of your writing?
Trinity: My family has always been very supportive. They are excited for me and can’t wait to see what I’ll write next.
Q. What was the most surprising thing you learned about creating books?
Trinity: I think I was surprised about how much detail went into developing the characters and the scenery throughout the book.
Q. What do you think makes a good story?
Trinity: That’s a tough one. There are so many things that make a good story. I would say what makes a good for me is one that can be relatable, entertaining, and impactful.
Q. What advice do you have for writers?
Trinity: My advice for writers would be not to give up. Obstacles and tough times will come, but don’t forget the reason why you write. Your why will help you overcome the “whatever.”
Q. What do you love most about the writing process?
Trinity: I truly enjoy the entire process. I enjoy getting inspired by something. Then toying with how the idea could be a story. I enjoy getting feedback on the story and envisioning how it will look. I enjoy getting the rough drafts and toying with colors. I also enjoy finally seeing the book in color and then holding the book in my hands. I really love the opportunity to read the book, connect with people, and encourage them. So I really enjoy it all!
Q. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Trinity: I love to stay active by working out or playing sports or some kind. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends.
Q. What type of books do you write?
Trinity: I love to write books that encourage people.
Q. What does your creative process look like?
Trinity: I feel like my creative process is always “on.” Everything inspires me from The Bible or a conversation to a picture, or even a memory.
Q. What do you love most about being an Author?
Trinity: I love that a story I’ve written can speak to someone else. It can help them get through a tough time, inspire, and encourage them. I really enjoy how people put their own stamp on the story and get something out of it that I didn’t even specifically intend.
Q. Are you working on anything at the present that you would like to share with your readers about?
Trinity: I’m currently working on book two in the series. It’s called “The Key of Harmony.” I don’t want to give too much away! I wrote it three years ago, so I’m really excited about this new project.
Q. What do you hope your readers take away from this book?
Trinity: I hope they understand that they are loved. God loves them, and no matter what they do or go through, that will never change.
