Children’s Book Review: Mollie’s Magical Tooth
A tooth, a fairy and a problem in Magic Land…
Oh no! Unicorns have lost their joy, the leprechaun can’t find his gold, and the magical fish have disappeared – all because the magic rainbow has lost its color!
Who can help Magic Land??
Mollie, a curious and adventurous girl who has just lost her first tooth, isn’t so sure if she should give it to the tooth fairy. She wishes to meet her before she can make her decision and one night, her wish becomes true.
Little does she know that this encounter will take her on the biggest adventure in her life.
Can Mollie help Miss Pearlwirl, the tooth fairy, to get the colors of the rainbow back? Does she need to give away her tooth? In this exciting adventure, Mollie will need all her creativity and imagination to help her friends and bring back happiness to Magic Land.
A magically illustrated story about what happens to our teeth when they fall out, young children will love to ride along on the journey with Mollie.

Losing a tooth is a special moment in a child’s life, especially when it’s the first tooth they lose. The experience can also come with some feelings of nervousness, curiosity, and excitement. One of the questions that many parents get when a child loses a tooth is, “what does the tooth fairy do with our tooth?” So how do you answer that question? How about a children’s book?
Mollie’s Magical Tooth by Jana Buchmann and illustrated by Lara Korotenko is a fun children’s book to help answer those questions about the tooth fairy. This children’s story is filled with Unicorns, magical fish, a magic rainbow, and of course, a magical tooth fairy. This story tells a delightful and magical tale of why Mollie’s tooth is so important and how it helps magic land and everyone in it.
Lara Korotenko does a fantastic job with the illustrations, and readers can travel to magic land with them. The colors are vivid, engaging, and absolutely magical! There are even a couple of pages of the story that children can color themselves. This book is perfect for your children’s bookshelf, especially those with wiggly teeth!

Q. What does your family think of your writing?
Jana: I was always the one who wrote speeches for anniversaries and other family occasions. So, they did know that I’m able to put my thoughts to paper. They didn’t know about the magical stories I have in my head. My dad just texted me yesterday how excited and proud they are and that I have a talent to inspire children. This makes me very happy.
Q. What was the most surprising thing you learned about creating books?
Jana: That cutting your story is so hard! When I started with the first draft of my book, it had more than 1000 words. I wanted to have it way shorter, and it was a challenge. You need to think about literally every word: Is it necessary? Does it add to the story?
It’s hard to cut some scenes and characters you love as an author, but if they don’t add to the story, it’s better to let them go. I think it’s the same as cutting a movie – you create a lot of scenes and dialogues, and then you have to decide what you’d like to keep in order to turn it from good to great.
Q. What advice do you have for writers?
Jana: The best advice I’ve got is to write your story again after you’ve written your first draft. You don’t need to create it completely new out of your head but put it away for a day or two and then print it out and retype it. You will see a couple of things that don’t work well, or that you might want to change.
Q. Describe what your ideal writing space looks like?
Jana: This is a funny question as to the ideal writing space I have in my mind is so different from the actual one. I imagine a cozy room with a view to a lake or a forest, maybe a crackling fire in the fireplace.
My real writing space looks like that: I’m having my most creative moments in the middle of the night, so I cuddle up on our couch in our quiet house and look at the tree in our front yard. But I can tell you that this is as cozy as a crackling fire!
Q. What do you love most about the writing process?
Jana: Seeing how the characters I have in my mind are coming to life at paper (or better said at my laptop). They develop a life of their own, and sometimes there are new characters I didn’t think of before. They are just there out of the blue. It’s so much fun to include them and see where the story goes.
Q. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Jana: I’m a very creative person, and I love to spend my time doing lots of crafts with my kids and also to explore different arts and handicrafts for myself. I have learned to knit and crochet and have attended a couple of painting classes. There are so many things to try and to learn!
Q. What type of books do you write?
Jana: I love to create unique stories full of fun and wonders. My books are made to inspire children and to take them into magical worlds. Their imagination is one of the most wonderful gifts of their childhood, and I hope they can keep it for a long time.
Q. Are you working on anything at the present that you would like to share with your readers about?
Jana: Yes! There will be a second Magic Land adventure with a little snow fairy who saves Christmas. I have another book coming out soon – it’s a fun book about friendship and learning numbers. And there is more to come; the illustrator has just started with his work on a lovely animal book.
Q. What do you hope your readers take away from this book?
Jana: Creative thinking and imagination are important for a child’s development. It is where creativity and thinking outside the box begin; imaginative and creative play is how children learn about the world. I hope I can spark the imagination of my little readers and encourage them never to lose it.
Q. What real-life inspirations did you draw from for the worldbuilding within your book?
Jana: My children are full of imagination, and being part of their colorful worlds inspires me every day. I got the actual idea for this book a long time ago and listened closely to my kids’ descriptions of a magical world. Magic Land was born!
