
Two Day Getaway to Springfield,IL
My family and I had the chance to visit Springfield, Illinois and we stayed 2 days. Who knew that there were so many fun activities in this amazing town?! It’s safe to say that two days was a great time, but not nearly long enough! We could have easily stayed another day – and still had more to do.

Things to do in Springfield, IL- Day 1
Here are some of the things that we did and saw during our Day 1 of being in Springfield. I encourage you to check them out, too!
Checked into the hotel at State House Inn
We LOVED the location of the State House Inn! It was right in the heart of downtown Springfield which meant that it was close to so many fun things. Being able to walk out the door and be in the middle of activities was awesome.
Some of the highlights of staying at the State House Inn also included:
- The Inn was full of local artwork
- The decor was modern and updated
- The rooms and meeting space were clean!
- There was space to work and sit in front of a fireplace at the same time!
- Our stay included free hot breakfast in the AM
- Top Hat Lounge was located on-site for food and drink options
Visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum
Do you love American history and fun presidential facts? Visiting the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum is awesome! It’s full of interactive displays and some really cool holographic and special effects that will keep everyone engaged throughout.
This is the perfect place to step back in time and learn more about our 16th President. There is even the opportunity to witness the 1860 Presidental Election, as though it were currently happening.
Eat Lunch at Obed & Issac's
There’s no doubt that your tummy will be rumbling during your trip, so plan on grabbing some beers and bites at Obed & Issac’s. It’s a local favorite where the beers are brewed on-site.
Everyone raves about the flatbread pizzas, and it’s located just a few minutes away from Abraham Lincoln’s home!
Stop at Lincoln Home National Historic Site
A visit to Lincoln Home National Historic Site needs to be on your radar. It’s the only home that the Lincoln family every owned and is a great way to see Lincoln throughout the years.
Visit the Illinois State Capitol
Have a history buff in the family? Take a tour of the Illinois State Capitol and learn all you can. You might even be able to see politics in action while you’re there!
Stop at the Lincoln Tomb
The Lincoln Tomb is the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln and family. Located in Oak Ridge Cemetery, it’s a highly visited cemetery, coming in second behind Arlington.
Eat Dinner at the Cozy Dog Cafe
Love corn dogs? Eating at Cozy Dog Cafe means that you can dine on the place that the corn dog on a stick originated! You’ll love the fun Route 66 decor as well!
Day 2 in Springfield, IL

Knights Action Park and Splash Kingdom
Who wants to spend all time getting wet and crazy?! At Knights Action Park and Splash Kindom, there are water slides, mini golfing, and tons of other fun things to do. Don’t forget to hit up the arcade and race the kids with the go-karts.
